What a sad story, but it was great to see you posting your work again, Fred.

I agree. That was a sad one, Fred. But it
is the way life is.

It reminded me of a toad.

When I was a kid in Nova Scotia, a toad was our friend.

For a whole summer, on damp and foggy
evenings, I'd step outside. I'd stand
by the rocks that glaciers dropped
millions of years ago.

In a few minutes, a large toad would
rise from his home - a hole under one
of the rocks. He'd hope up to my feet
and hop against my rubber boots and
wait for me to touch him.

Your story brought back a great memory.

Reading your writing again, brought
back one of Our Echoe's best writers.

We missed you and are glad you are back.

What a sad ending to Freddie, but a happy come back for Fred. I was thrilled when I saw you had a new story posted. You remain in my prayers. Take care, BJ

Welcome back, Fred. Your story about Freddy is so very interesting, yet the unhappy ending makes me sad. That's the mark of a good author though...to draw in the reader and make him/her feel emotions that fit the tale. You succeeded.
Take good care of yourself,
Sandi in FL.

I agree with all your story's comments. I could really see that lovely yard as you wrote but never dreamed the blue heron could be such an enemy. He should have been a great addition to the landscape. Great to see you back and writing, Gail

Hello !
Have been closely watching OurEcho news of your health. Good to see you are back and getting stronger.
Just loved this tender story. Freddy' was such a cute name for a frog and what a sweet and unusual friendship it was ! Felt really sad about how the heron got him. That must have been heart-renching for Bob. You told the story so well.
A kite swooped down and made off with Speedy' my precious little turtle. Could never quite get over that !

I am so glad to see you writing, you had us worried there for awhile. I loved the story but very sad also. He should have waited and maybe another Freddy would come.

Boo on the bird, even though he was doing what birds do: feed themselves and their young. Who'd have ever "thunk" a frog named Freddy would be such a friend to Bob...wonderful story although the ending is not what we wished for.
Fred, it is great to have you healthy enough to write again. God bless ~~ Susan

Strange how one can make friends with nature. Also strange how we grieve the simpliest loss. This is a sad tale, but I'm glad you shared it here. I have a friend with such a pond and bullfrogs abound. She used to have a Golden Retriever who was trained to chase the birds away from the Koi pond and protect the inhabitants. I can certainly relate to such happenings. Janet
