Sounds I Would Like to Hear

The sound of my mother’s voice
The sound of my Fathers
The sound of my Brothers
The sounds of many others

Remembering the sounds of those past years
Since my life started
Of loved ones voices
That have since departed

Relatives, Aunts and Uncles and Cousins
Friends of many many dozens
Who aren’t here anymore
They, that have gone before

Moms call to come to dinner
Miss Sager’s calling for recess on Monday
The sound of those hymns at Chelsea Church on Sunday
These sounds a winner

Monte hit the floor
Time to start the daily chores
Dads voice in the early morn
Not nice to hear

The voices of all my teachers
Traveling Salesman and traveling Preachers
Neighbors voices some raspy some clear
Would again be nice to hear

The voices of Famous singers in person
Of Kate, Doris and Bing
Loved to hear them sing
Would love to hear them in person once again

The sounds of those old cars
The Model “A’s”
The Model “T’s”
Cranking them would bring you to your knees

The sound of Squirrels barking
At me
For leaning against their tree
While fishing, Doncha see

The beautiful sounds of birds singing
Some perching, some winging
High up in the air
Sounds I love to hear

Sounds of the mournful whistle of a train
The tooting of a ships horn
As I left the states for parts unknown
These sounds forlorn

Sounds of Christmas Carols, I knew every word
6,000 miles from home
While serving Uncle Sam
Never again to roam

Those whistle sounds
While in basic training
Blown by the Cpls, Sgts, and Lt’s
Those sloshing sounds marching while it’s raining

That beautiful sound “I Do”
Said by my wife
Great little lady
Love of my life

The sound of Lori and Scott’s name
Read at their graduation, at Anaheim High
Sounds at their weddings
Trying hard not to cry

There are sounds that you’d like to hear
Made by loved ones and friends, Oh so dear
You can again carry on
When you meet again “In the Great Beyond”
