Happy Easter
By Chuck Dishno
4/4/15

Happy Easter to all my good friends. This will be the first year in many that I won’t be able to get out and go to Church due to my continuing (but improving) health problems. I have no complaints though as God has been good to me and I know He is not thru with me yet.

When I think of Easters past I can’t help remembering how much my Mom loved that day and all it stood for.

When my Pop died in 1959, we always included Mom in our Easter plans. Mom loved Roz’s cooking especially her Chinese. We usually invited Mom to stay the night before so she could get up and enjoy the day. The night before I would hide eggs all over the house and make her a special Easter basket. She would get up, knowing it was going to be a fun day. After a good breakfast, Mom would start peaking around the room looking for any sight of her hidden eggs. She would get up and I would play the game of “getting warm or getting cold”. After she had found most of them, I would present her with her Easter basket. It contained lots of chocolate bunnies and eggs. Then there would be the ultimate surprise that she was anticipating. I had taken one of those silver L’eggs stocking eggs, opened it up and put in the most outrageous picture of me I could find, cut to fit the shell. Mom would let out squeal and loved every minute of it.

I would often make a special limerick for Mom too. Here is one I found in her collection of letters:

Happy Easter to my wonderful Mudder,
She is one of a kind, like no rudder.
I have heard a lot of guys,
Refer to my size,
Saying giving birth to him must have fractured your rudder.

Mom has been gone for over 22 years now but Oh how she loved Easter. She is now celebrating the real Easter in Heaven.
