After many days of rain, the clouds parted and a warm spring sun shone down
on me. I sat on the front steps, soaking it up the spring weather and reading a book.

Across the cul-de-sac, the school bus came to a stop and deposited a few dozen
children. They scattered in all directions, like bees from a disturbed hive. One young
boy, about eight or nine years old, stopped at the foot of our steps and asked, “Do
you know where Brayden moved to?”

Brayden used to live in the apartment next to ours, but his family moved
to a house, about fives miles away. I informed the young lad, “They moved across

“I wanted to visit Brayden, but don’t know where he lives.” he told me. “Do
you know their phone number or address?”

“No I’m afraid I don’t, but I can contact his mother through Facebook and
get their number for you.”

“That would be great. We used to play together all the time. I miss him. Would
it be OK if I knocked on your door later to see if you got his number?”

“Sure.” I said. “What’s your name so I came tell them you were asking about

“Ok, Samuel. I’ll contact Brayden’s mom.”

Just then I heard his mother calling for him to come home, where he probably
got a lesson about talking to strangers, which is what I would do he were my child.

I went inside and sent a message to Brayden’s mom. She replied promptly,
“Oh that's awesome could you give him our phone number it’s …..if not I'll try to stop by
this weekend. Brayden was just talking about him today.”

I sat back and smiled. What a coincidence. Those two young boys thought about
each other on the same day. I haven’t seen Samuel since, but I bet he connected with
Brayden again.

I have friends from my childhood I haven’t seen in thirty years. I have friends
in two provinces of Canada and in a dozen states in the USA …places where I’ve lived
or where they moved to.

It shows that our friends move; we move; friendships stay put in our hearts.
