The hawk flew over the fields on the other side of the railway tracks. It was
trailed by three small birds. They were brave little birds. I watched them swoop in and
peck at the large hawk’s tail and wings. The hawk squealed and spun, trying to seek
freedom from its tormentors, but the birds would not give up.

The hawk had to go. They were going to make it happen.

Although they were many times smaller, the smaller birds succeeded.

The smaller birds had a mission. They were protecting their young from a
predator.

I saluted them.

I’m a father and grandfather. If my children or grandchildren were threatened by
someone stronger and meaner than me, I would give my life to protect them.

Knowing I would probably lose the battle, I could at least give my family the
chance to escape. The birds did the same.

That’s the way it should be.

Protect your family from all threats.
