Inner Beauty

Janice Bumbalough Marler
2013

In April, of two-thousand and nine, the world stood amazed at the performance of Susan Boyle as she sang for ‘Britain’s Got Talent’. This forty-five year old, dowdily clad, wondrously humble lady stepped out onto the stage in front of thousands of onlookers with looks of disdain on their faces.

When I first saw her, I wasn’t certain what to expect, but when she opened her mouth to sing cold chills went through my very being. I began to cry. Mouths were open as she delivered, 'I Dreamed a Dream’. After her song ended, the crowd stood to laud her.

Susan accomplished her ‘dream’ that evening. She touched the spirits of the masses. Susan was a breath of fresh air; we were all taken in by her meekness. The world needs more Susan Boyles to cause us to reflect upon what is important in life and how God gives people, like Susan Boyle, the ability to bring us to our feet in ovation.
