A Wave, Wink, or a Smile

Been to several Poor Farms
Have driven many a mile
Seen the anxious looks on the patients faces
Just waiting for a wave, wink or a smile

Seems no one comes around much anymore
Visits fewer and farther between
While the old folks rest in their wheelchairs
The relatives really donít want to seem mean

Itís so easy to make up excuses
You know all the while
From a friend or a stranger
All that is wanted is a wave, a wink or a smile

From the unsure stares in the lobby
Sometimes you have to be brave
But it takes a little effort
To wink, smile or wave

A patient might be the only one left in the family
So that wrinkled little old lady in pink
Would be thrilled and excited
To get from you a smile, wave or a wink

While Iím out and about
And a stranger I might meet on the street
Iíd give them a wave, wink or a smile
If they smiled back it would be my treat

Let there be no hesitation
Look the patient in the eye, all the while
You will be answering their prayer
With a wave, a wink and a smile
