A Trash Can

collects short term appetites as
leftover lip impressions
on pop cans
to fingerprints handling chip bags
and pizza crusts
seagulls would love to feast on.

Today’s city is a mirror
of similar intentions
where homeless citizens disappear
into urban cracks
and missed opportunities shunt
ideals into valleys of
forgotten dreams

sometimes one escapes --
bypasses the rules
leaps over bureaucratic shuffles
arising with free expression.
