Our Half Ton

travels across a dusty-storm
of gravel road, to a BC hill top
undulating up and around
natural bends. Cats
made this route years
ago. Their grumbling tracks
ground into rocky soil,
followed by trucks packing
bed rock loads
to disperse upon the path.

Modern engines are no
longer strangers on this road
bringing products of merit.
Hardy ones needing
lumber for homes
in a market of building.

Now we’re coasting
downhill -- pine, cedar and
aspen trembling by
on a homeward journey at 110
km leading to oblivion
if our break lines give out.
