I think that we all pretty much know that little children are often special. Jesus knew
that. When little children were brought to Him, He gladly welcomed them. But His
disciples were displeased and rebuked the people who brought them to visit Jesus.
But Jesus said to His disciples –“Let the little children come to me, and do not
hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

And truly I found one such very special little girl at the One Green Planet site. The
title of the post: ”Passionate Little Girl Who Doesn’t Want to Eat Animals Anymore
Takes a Stand.”

She is pictured in tears telling her mom- “I don’t wanna eat any animal, mom.” She
had just learned that the hamburgers she loves were made from cows. Isn’t it amazing –
her compassion? She would no longer want to eat hamburgers because she didn’t
want to eat any animal. It took me years before I made a similar statement to myself.
In fact, I was 45 years old. But like the little girl, I finally said – I don’t wanna eat any
animal anymore.

I also think that this little girl will one day tell her mother that she doesn’t want to
drink milk either after she finds out about dairy cow suffering. It was a natural progression
for me- when at 53 I found out how dairy cows were being treated. No more milk, no
more cheese, no more ice cream for me hereafter. But yes, there were soy alternatives.
Maybe not as great tasting, but I learned to enjoy them all the same.

I liked what the Green Planet writers wrote in reflecting on this little girl’s stance:

“Despite their age and experience of the world, little kids are some of the most
compassionate and intuitive people around. They exist in a world that is not yet
weighed down with the trappings of society and the expectations that accompany it.
They wear what they want, they don’t apologize for their feelings, and above all else,
they say what they want.”

And I agreed with them when they said we all could learn a thing or two from this little
compassionate one. When we really start to think of our food choices and investigate
the costs in animal suffering, we will not only help them -but we will improve our own
health and the health of our planet.

Little one – whoever you are, I hope and pray that you will always stay true to following
your compassionate heart. If you do, I know that you will never regret it and our world
will be a better place because of people like you.
