Autum starts officially on the 23rd of September,
it is my favorite time of the year.I especially love Autum because i love the smell of burning leaves. And all the sights and sounds of that time of year seem to have a special flavor all their own. With the advent of autum there are yellow pumkins at the market which seem to have appeared over night,as if just waiting for the fall to arrive to come out of hiding.Over night too, it seems that signs proclaiming "hayride next weekend" also come out of hiding. The heat of summer is now fading and it will soon be just a memory,as jack frost nips your nose. And small gems of ice will glisten on your lawn as you peek out of your window on cold mornings to see if all the birds have flown south for the coming winter, then too there is the lonely honking of wild geese, flying in their "V" formation as they head for a warmer clime.
The leaves will soon turn gold, giving each tree a special look as if it were dressing up in it's finest raiment to greet the arrival of winter.
The fields are now fallow, awaiting next spring when the farmers will come out of hibernation to start thier cycle of planting all over.
Crows and Ravens seem to seek furtively for any tidbit left by the gleaning of the fields, and the little field mice find it more difficult to hide as Mr. and Mrs. house cat look for tender morsels to feed thier growing litter of Kits.
In fact, all of mother natures wild creatures seem imbued with an ergency that seems almost to
infect us humans as well.
These are the days of Autum, even the name seems to have an almost magical sound and canontation
speaking to us of the mysteries of nature and the marvels that each magical day of this special time of year might bring, for even though all plant life is now dying and fading from green to brown, the magic of rebirth and growth is an unspoken promise to all creatures that inhabit this home of ours, this jewel in a seemingly endless void, this place, this planet, our Earth.
