Brian J Knapp

One of the lucky few who can claim writing as the only real job he has ever held, I’ve spent the past decade as a reporter, editor and freelance journalist.

I started as a volunteer sports reporter for The Covington News, a tri-weekly newspaper in my hometown of Covington, Ga., just outside Atlanta. Promoted to sports editor a week before my 20th birthday, I held the position for nearly seven years and was fortunate enough to win several Georgia Press Association awards for both writing and editing. In 2004, readers selected me as their favorite newspaper columnist, an honor by which I am humbled to this day. Ultimately, I accepted the editor’s chair but elected to leave six months into my tenure in order to pursue other writing opportunities and, more importantly, to prepare for the arrival of my son.

A member of the East Metro Atlanta Christian Writers, I have since been published by Real Fighter (a national mixed martial arts magazine based in California), ChopTalk (the official monthly magazine of the Atlanta Braves), The Fight Network (an international multi-media outlet dedicated to mixed martial arts, boxing and professional wrestling) and Sports Spectrum (a Christian sports magazine based in North Carolina). Can you tell I’m a diehard sports fan?

A year shy of 30, I reside in Covington, Ga., with my wife of six years, Holly, and our 14-month-old son, Gehrig (named, of course, for the great Lou Gehrig). God is the center of our daily life, for we believe he is behind all things of consequence in our world. I would be remiss if I failed to mention those who have mentored me along the way, including author Cecil Murphey and my good friends Ron Manson and Nat Harwell. Without their guidance and support, I would not be where I am today.
