"IT WAS THE BEST OF TIMES,IT WAS THE WORST OF TIMES" could be paraphrased to read It IS the best of times it IS the worst of times, because,in my opinnion that is how i see things in America today. It is a time when the nation is at war,a time when we purport to honor our servicemen and women but in reality we are mostly only paying lip service to them, once the present conflict has ended, and it will end, they, the present heroes and heroins of this present conflict will be the forgotten warriors just as are the veterans of the vietnam and korean conflicts are forgotten, just as are the ww 1 and ww 2 veterans are now almost forgotten. This, supposedly thier GOLDEN years are beset with out of sight prices at the gas pump, higher taxes (to fund the present conflict) and forgotten promises and unfullfilled contracts made to them by our Government,it is like the veterans of America are the new tribe, the new native americans of a by gone era.It is a time when many older Americans, myself included are facing foreclosure on the homes in which they have invested both time and money, and yes, even blood sweat and tears to obtain, they are facing foreclosure because of greed, pure and simple greed and due to an uncaring public and government, these same older people are mostly veterans,at least in my case anyway and i feel that i am not alone. There are,i am told some 22 or 23 million people in America today that are facing foreclosure and will probably be forced out of thier homes, and still the Government dose nothing to help, preferring instead to attempt to bail out the large corporations in an effort that they, the large corporations, do not loose any more money on the poor little people that are supposedly the ones who placed them in office in the first place,i say SHAME ON YOU Mr.Bush and SHAME ON YOU AMERICA and SHAME ON YOU ALABAMA for letting this sorry state of affairs arise in the first place. It is a time when even the AMERICAN LEGION an organization founded by veterans for veterans allows Russell county of Alabama to disregard the very CODE OF ALABAMA 1975 and flaunt the very promises it made to the veterans of this state. This in my opinnion is merely lip service to the veterans of this state, and lip service dose not pay any bills. If i offend anyone reading this, then i am glad, for that may show that there is a spark of consciousness out there in a world that has grown hard and heartless and cold,a world in which every thing is relegated to "how much money can i make"and a world in which the elderly are warehoused and forgotten,a world where the youth are brain washed into thinking that patriotism is the same as not speaking up when you think country is wrong,or condoning every thing it's leaders do or say.The last time i checked, this is still America and not Soviet Russia,we are allowed to speak our minds here,we are allowed to say when our president is wrong or right without fear of being taken off in the middle of the night and jailed for our political views, arent we?
