The Best 4th of July Ever

Today is July 3, 2008. It was time to prepare for a very special day, the fourth of July. There would be fireworks, a picnic, swimming, and a parade.

Mom shopped for popsicles, juice boxes, and sandwich stuff for our picnic. Daddy bought the fireworks. Grandma, Luke, and I swept the patio. That is where we watch the fireworks. We were having guests, so Mom kept adding chores to her list.

It was getting late and the work wasn’t finished. There was so much to do. The kids were very tired. Buddy was already sleeping safe and sound in his doghouse. Fergie was asleep in a pile of fluffy leaves. Instead of finishing our chores, we went to bed.

It was still dark when something woke me up. “Peep!” It said. I thought it was a dream and went back to sleep. The next day, the house was sparkling clean.

“Maybe that good fairy Grandma is always wishing for did this,” I said.

Grandma winked.

I ate waffles and drank milk for breakfast. After breakfast we went swimming, watched the parade, and had a picnic at the park. At 9:30 the fireworks started. Bam! Boom! Crash! Beautiful colors filled the sky. This was the best 4th of July ever.
