When I was

a child I wanted to be a cowboy,
to jump into the saddle like
Hop-along Cassidy or Roy Rogers
and chase the bad guys, rope
them into submission then ride
proudly into town, a little lady
waiting for my return.

Now I am older and overweight,
barely able to lift my foot into
the stirrup. My idea of the Wild
West is traveling the roadway in a
Chev truck, cows rolling by and
my grown-up lady beside me.
