A FISHING STORY poem

A Fishing Story

Weathered spars stretched
silently in a ghastly death
amid the sandy shore
snuggled up within the drift of
long, long years ago.
We came upon the peaceful scene
passing quietly along the beach, trodding
Cape Spearís rocky path.
Grandfather fished these waters
his lobster boat, proud and filled with traps
wooden outline keen and true
slicing through white-capped crests,
herring net patched and ready.
This boat is an historic memory upon the land
within a rising mound of sand.
