Artist VI
I‘ve seen four Farm women
Preparing to start
In the heat of the summer
A picture of “culinary art”

Over a hot wood cooking stove
Just to prepare a meal
For sixteen hungry farmhands
Who will be coming in from the field.

There will be four kinds of meats
Fresh vegetables picked from the garden by me
I’ve chipped ice from ice in the icebox
To be placed in the glasses for iced tea.

There will be three kinds of pies
Apple, cherry, peach from our trees
Lastly I pump two pails of water from our well
So it’s cool for the tea,

The old Oak table is extended
With the leafs seldom used and then
Only at harvest time
To accommodate sixteen hungry men.

At last when the food is placed upon the table
A beautiful sight to see
I’ve been there-done that
The picture burned into my memory.
