Why is this is happening to me?
Why is the world so mean?
Iím so tired
Trying to keep this place clean.

The dust comes in
Whether the door or window is shut
Taking a bath in the no. 3 tub
Is a chore in this old hut.

Why did I follow my husband
Out here in to godforsaken place
With promises of happiness
My life is such a disgrace.
Iíve tried to make the best of it
Iíve tried to blend in
But as a city girl
My patience is wearing thin.

Iím leaving this life of nothing
As soon as I get enough money for a bus
Doing house cleaning
For the landlord, just south of us.

The way things are going
Iíll have enough in about three weeks
God, I think Iím pregnant
My poor life is so bleak.

Iíve had my grip
Packed for days
Not much to pack
Canít wait to get away

Go home to Momma and Poppa
Theyíll take care of me
No more dishpan hands
No more misery.

In Mommyís and Daddyís home
No more gloom
Theyíll cook and take care of me
I can have my old room.
