Barefoot Boy With Cheek--

Barefoot boy with cheek----

As I live and breath
This could be me
In my bib overalls
Beneath those old elm trees.

The look on this boyís face
Kinda makes me sad
These werenít just hard times
Things were really bad.

Food was scarce
Work was even scarcer
Depression was rampant
Think it couldnít get worser?

I have a baby sister
Momís in a family way
Dadís plantin corn
Momís fixin supper like she does every day.

As we sit at the table
Staring at a sparse meal
Really itís filling
Just bread and gruel

But before we partake
The scraps set on our plate
Daddy bows his head
And each others hands we take.

Daddy thanks the Lord
For giving us this day
The food weíre about to eat
As together we pray.
