My First Address

My first Address

In a two story farm house
Out in the country
In Chelsea Township
The Address was Rural Route # 3

This farm house
Had no electricity
Had no telephone
Had no running water, doncha see..

The cold North wind and snow
Blew in around the window sills
In the winter time
Thinking about it gives me the chills.

Cold hardwood floor in winter
Linoleum in the bedroom
icy to your feet
In the early morning gloom.

Summer time hot and dry
No air conditioning, no fans
Sweltering heat
Out on this prairie land.

At night we lay atop the sheets
Drops of sweat wets the bed
Praying for a tiny breeze
To waft across our head.

Maybe a Thunderstorm
Some lightening and thunder
Before it started raining
Our heads we ducked under

The sheet
Protection from the storm
When the rain started it
Cooled our old home.

We weathered the dust storms
In the thirties
Couldn’t stay clean
Always kinda dirty

We had Global heat
We had Global Snow
We had Global dust
How the wind did blow

We lived through this Globalization
With thousands of others
WE survived
Leslie,I,Dad and Mother.
