Memory Lane

As I start out each morning
On my early morning stroll
From my Humble Hamlet
Up on our rocky knoll

I try not to set a peppy pace
Or think about my destination
But to harken back to some time past
Maybe use my imagination,

To make my mind forget the heat
While walking on the asphalt ribbon
Thinking back to some fun time
Or something Iíve done to make a livin,

Itís easy to think about old friends
And remember the good times and the bad
Maybe some strange happening
That made me feel sad

In a short time I arrive
At the lodge door
I grab a chair in the Bistro
Order coffee, water and nothing more

There I meet other old timers
We discuss the daily news
Joke and kid each other
About our biased views

A half-hour later I leave the AC cooled room
I step out into the sunny day
And set my mind to thinking
About something far away

Then as I turn the corner
And head up Heart attack Hill
My pace slows, and with heavy breathing
And with a driving will

I reach the top
One more block to go
Made it once again
Doncha know.
