Yesterday July ninth two thousand ten
Was a very special day
I found one of Shirley’s vases
And arranged a small bouquet.

Of varied colored roses
Placed on the table top
Beside a little something
In a golden ribbon wrapped box.

This little something was a golden necklace
With tiny diamonds three
Representing The Past, The Present and The Future
Of Shirley and me.

We were treated to a “special” lunch
By The Linde family
At the Saboba country club
On a golf course in Indian country.

Later in the evening
As I sat thinking about this day
I heard the phone ring
It was my Best Man “Jay”

Jay from El Dorado
Called and said to me
To you and Shirley

Jay, a life long friend
Who I met while in Junior High
Have been friends for 69 plus years
We’ve been in situations that would “Make a Grown Man cry.”

I asked Jay if he remembered
The terrible thunder storm with a possible tornado
As he and his Mother, Nina
Drove the hundred miles back to El Dorado.

From the wedding in Russell
As he drove the road home that night
He could barely see the white line
Hard to keep it in sight.

All ended well
That day and this
We’re alive and well
As we reminisce.
