Benefactor

Won the Lotto I did, now
dividing
up the loot, a task
unfavourable
to those who will not receive
but for them that do --

a farm for Aunt Millie
scholarship for nephew Pete
money for family
and friends,
paying off bills ‘cause of need.

Easy to dole out gifts
shoving aside hard work
persistent struggles,
why should their lives not
receive the fruit of
someone’s benevolence?

In the middle of the night I awoke.
“Listen,” a voice said
its majesty penetrating a
dreamy comfort. It was my Lord.

“I provide for the needs of others,”
He intoned. “My gifts are what Jesus
My Son brought you.”

Yes, I did receive those precious
words in the silence
of the night --
Love
Forgiveness and
Praying for others, the only
path to benevolence.
