Learning New Words

Learning New Words

Learning new words
(From new jobs)

On the farm
It was Bridle, Hames and Krupper
Haymow, Silo, Cultivator
Not dinner but supper.

Spade, Hoe and AXE
Foal, Calf, and Shoat
Oats, Alfalfa and Wheat
And Iím still too young to vote

But the Oil Refinery
Fractionator, Regenerator, Precipitator
Steam and Catalyst too
Recycle, Reflux, Decanted Oil,
Just to name a few

Miles and miles of pipe
Valves that regulate
Instruments houses by the dozens
Turbines, Compressors, Tanks that Accumulate

Towers for cooling
Furnaces for heat, to be sure
The three things thatís needed
Time, Pressure and Temperature.

Butane, Propane, Methane, Ethane, Pentane
Overhead and Oil
Reformate, heat exchangers
My mind is in a roil.

I canít pronounce half these words
Whatís a farm kid to do
Iíll try to retrain my brain
So I can make it through

My training period
Is just a week
Trying to remember all these things
My future looks so bleak.

But thanks to a good crew
Who helps me on my shift
Itís not too long
Before I get the drift.

Wayne, Sot, Jones, and Hubert O.
Grant, Marley, Poeshal and Jay
Runt, Herbie, and Joe
The ones I worked with every day.

Herb Bonnell
Pat, and Ole Blue
Eli, Hershel, Shrader
And Smitty too

Helped me crossover
From Farming to Refining
My brain (partially)absorbed them all
I have no reason to be whining.

Justus O. and Bill Skelly
My Super and My Big Boss
From Farmer to refiner
I Finally made it across.
