Countryís Smells

Iíve mentioned the smells of the city
But just be fair
I remember the smells of the farm
In the twenty plus years I lived there.

From the smell of the barnyard
To the sweet smell of new mown hay
The smell of the lilac bushes around the outhouse
Needed to keep other smells at bay,

The smell of the hayloft
Loaded with baled alfalfa hay
These smells I remember
As if they happened today.

The smell of the dust
As you scooped tons of wheat
Into the bin
In the summers heat

Those Cherry Blossoms
A sweet smell in the spring
And other smells
That the wild flowers bring

But the air after a summer shower
So deliciously pristine
This smell tops them all
Itís so pure and clean.
