Old Blue

“Old Blue”

“Old Blue” has been with us
For over six years
Had to let her go last Sunday
Hard to hold back the tears.

We took her down to Temecula
A city just twenty miles south
We didn’t talk much on the way
We were kinda down at the mouth.

Many thoughts raced through our heads
We really hadn’t planned
To have to do what we did
Things kinda got out of hand.

We reached our destination
Then with heavy heart
Holding hands we entered this giant building
Then the paper work did start.

They ask us personal questions
About the life of “Old Blue”
About her performance
And the things she had been through.

They wanted to know our reason
For getting rid of “Old Blue”
And if this action
We were going to pursue

Would in any way
Cause a problem or any fear
That later on would
Arise and maybe reappear.

After the transaction was completed,
And the deal was done
There was only one thing to do
And as I walked out into the sun

I had to do something I hated most of all
Retrieve and transfer all our papers and things
That for six years we had accrued
Along with our mementos that six years brings,

And transfer them to our new ‘Honda Odyssey van’
“Old Blue” had been good to us
And we will miss her a lot
And we’ll try hard to adjust,

As we drive down the Highways and Byways
We will take it like a man
As we cruise along in comfort
In our “New Honda Odyssey Van.”
