Dinner at the Ritz

Dinner at the Ritz?

Dining in this “Oil Lease” house
On milk, biscuits and grits
May not be your idea
Of dinner at the “Ritz”

But to this family
No matter what life will bring
Filling those empty stomachs
Surviving is the thing

Food served on chipped dinner plates,
Karo syrup in a can
Milk in cups and glasses
Meat out of the frying pan

Two have already eaten
And left to go out and play
Plenty food for all
Today.

We’ll not worry about tomorrow
It’ll get here soon enough
In these uncertain times
It gets kinda rough.

I salute this Oil Patch family
At their table I would sit
In humble appreciation
It’d be like Dining at the “Ritz”.
