Barely Living

Barely Living

A newspaper man
Picked out this Oil Field Shack
And the family living there
For an article in the “Farmers Almanac”

An Item about this family
Working and living on an Oil Lease
This is an easy assignment
This will be a breeze

But as he looked into the camera
And studied the faces of the family sitting there
He changed his mind
And began to compare

This family with his
Wife and kids, of which there were only two
Living far away from here
In a house, in town on Third Avenue.

After the photo he left
This family’s home almost in tears
Wondering what kind of life’s in store
For those kids in the coming years.
