Twelve in a row

Twelve Young Men

Twelve Young men
All in a row
Dressed the same
From head to toe.

One stands with a rod
One with a horn
The rest with their left hand
On the haft of their sword.

Not a speck of dust
On their pantaloons or their shoes
In front of that rocky backdrop
What were they going to do?

Were they in training
For the changing of the guard
To protect some Imperial statesman
From injury or harm?

Or are they preparing
To perform anywhere
Some classy initiation or ceremony
At a forum, or public square?

Use your imagination
What do you see?
This is what it looks like
To me.

It’s a bit part in the movie “Brown Rice”
Small part of the Main attraction
I can see and hear it now
“LIGHTS--CAMERA---ACTION”
