My Home in Hemet No. 1

My Home in Hemet No. 1

My Home in Hemet-No. 1
(California –that is)

Behind our house
Is a ditch Shirley and I have named “The Nile”
Pushed high up on the bank
Are boulders in a pile,

But if you awake early enough
You’ll get a beautiful surprise
Look toward the east
Another spectacular sunrise.

The cloud formations
Are beautiful to see
Balanced atop the Mountain
In the distance to the east

Makes you forget about
“The Nile,” and that pile of boulders
All those troubles
Resting on your shoulders

Nothing but pure beauty
As I stand there half awake
Waiting patiently
For dawn to break.
