Cottage Road in Nova Scotia

The lake is like a glass
of Chablis stoked into a frenzy,
canoe’s wake
mowing lily-pads creating
trails of spaghetti,
mosquitoes probing

our journey includes a loon’s
lamenting call, soothing
splash upon the hull, memories
following supper.

Cottage road alive, headlights
pouncing,
sounds and trees in parallel,
vigils by the shore
yet, snaring my peace.
