Red Sails in the Sunset

Red Sails in the Sunset

“Red sails in the sunset
Way out on the sea
Oh, carry my loved one
Home safely to me.”

Reminds me when I was a kid
This was mom’s favorite song
She was either humming it
Or singing along

With her favorite radio program
Where she would send in a request
To play the songs
She liked the best.

She even had the record
On the windup Victrola that she would play
As it stood against the wall
At least four times a day.

Mom had a beautiful voice
Loved to hear her singing
Those old hymns
While dusting or cleaning

That old farm home
The place I was born
Thanksgiving day
On a cold and blustery morn.

Mom’s in heaven now
She’s singing, I’ll bet
Her favorite song
Red Sails In the sunset.
