The Southern Shore

A rail-thin boy, ancestral soul
child of fixation
at Canso’s shore, open-mouthed
harbour--

gray dawn approaching.

Accepting his vision, tourists
solicit sights along the
Marine Trail

digital images purging high
tide surges. These visitors admire
scenic
montages, astounded

as seagulls stall in private
movements, signatures prescribed
on tide-abandoned rocks. And

cars continue their intrusions, cove
to silent cove, capturing
the fullness of an Atlantic view.
