Our dog Tuffy
Started acting upset
The first part of last week
Took him to the Vet

The exam
Was two hundred fifty
Tuffy’s teeth were infected
Told that they could fix it in a jiffy.

For seven hundred plus
They’d make him good as new
Please don’t judge me
But I didn’t know what to do.

Tuffy is twelve years old
Love him sincerely
The thought that crossed mind------
Wasn’t thinking clearly.

Took him to another vet
For a “Second Opinion”
If he charged the same amount
And after contemplation

I would give the OK
Why am I thinking about money?
What’s the matter with you?
Why are you so grumpy?

The Second Vet wanted
250 and change
Now that’s getting into
Old Midas’s range.

Thirteen teeth later
Into the garbage can
Came out from under anesthesia
Wobbly and uncertain

About where he was,
I hoped Tuffy could eat
What’s left in the dog food can
The operation, his appetite did not deplete

Since we have been home
Vet said to feed him right
Tuffy is begging for more and more
He’d eat everything in sight

Seems back to normal
Tail hasn’t remembered how to wag
With all the medication
His behind seems to drag.

He is walking OK
He is barking OK
He is begging OK
Hope he can sleep the night away.

So Tuffy will be with us
For years to come
Kinda “toothless”
Tuffy, “Welcome Home.”

This had been a wild week----
For Shirley and I
Medicating Tuffy with
Torbutrol and Amoxi

Looking into
Those hurting eyes
The helpless feeling
Of Shirley and I

We three are feeling much better
Now it’s over and done
About Tuffy our Cock-A-Poo
Common sense finally won----
