When Fishermen Move Away

A wooden hull bumps gently
against the dock

slapping water along the shore
skim of glass upon the lake

distant hills outline the sky.

And in the cottage mom and
dad are resting

children no longer here

now grown into careers and
faraway places.

They remember the boat.
