4-4-44

Four, Four, Forty Four
(4-4-44)

Today the “fourth” of April
Really rings a bell
The date I remember so well

While in my El Dorado HS English classroom
The teacher gave a short dissertation
About happening once in a millennium
I was interested only in graduation

Later the next month, in May
I couldn’t wait
Four years of torture
Looked forward to that May date.

But today
To day at the age of 84
I noticed the calendar
Was April the fourth.

Back I went to the day
That the teacher told the class
This was a special day
And I just let it pass

Silly me, that teacher
I don’t remember her name
But I remember 4-4-44
Just the same.
