It is soon to be July 4th,to most of us this is a chance to cook out,go swimming and watch a fire work display or maybe for a dwindling few, sing Patriotic songs and watch a parade.
But please take a moment and consider these some what sobering numbers. From the Revolutionary War up to the Gulf War,there have been around 2,757,196 American lives lost in one war or another.Breaking that down, the figures are as follows REVOLUTIONARY WAR...4,435 Killed in Action
WAR OF 1812 .........6,765 Killed inAction
Mexican American War........1,733 Killed inAction
Civil War...................184,594 Killed in action.
Spanish American War............385 Kilied in Action.
World War I...................53,513 Killed in Action.
World War II..................292,131 Killed in Action.
Korean War....................33,651 Killed in Action.
Vietnam War....................47,369 Killed in Action.
Gulf War........................145 Killed in Action.
Some of these wars only lasted a matter of Months while some lasted for years, however one facr remains Freedom is Not Free.
The total of all deaths in World War two was 55,714,000
toatl of all deaths in the civil war was 970,227 and I believe thesse were just the combatants, this figure does not include civilian deaths from starvation or otherwise, likewise the figures from the Vietnam War does not include Civilian Deaths caused by any of the combatants.
So as You go out to celebrate your independence, think of these figures and remmeber that FREEDOM IS NOT FREE!
