My closest friend, Dick, who just turned 90 and is now in a rehab center in Dillon. Showed this to me a few days ago. When I read it aloud, we both cried.

It was written by his beloved wife, Alice, just before she passed away in 2003. I thought it was so beautifully written that I wanted to share it with you.

We should all be blessed with so much love and devotion.

I welcome your comments as I will surely show them to Dick when I visit him each day.
Chuck

Alice wrote:
To Dick and My Children
As the doors of my life, one by one, close slowly and gently around me, I wish to take a few moments to reflect upon my life and advise of my whishes upon my death.

I have been blessed beyond every wish I dreamed of, imagined or ever prayed for in our family of Bob, Kathy, Karen, Kelly and Susan, and you husbands and children. You have given me joys I will cherish through eternity. I thank each of you for giving me a life of pleasures, delight and happiness.

And now the final door is about to close. I wish to be cremated with my ashes buried in our cemetery plot with you, Dick. I do not wish a funeral—only a private memorial service with my family and a few close friends attending. I would hope and trust that our local priest, Father Jeff, would provide a simple grave side memorial service. Yes, tears will be permitted, a few in sorrow but mostly of memories of joy, happiness and laughter.

To you, Dick, I promise as I have never promised before, to walk slowly down the paths of death until you join me at the journey’s ending.

And now for a few moments in eternity I wish you a temporary “Goog-bye.”

I love You
