Even though I live in the USA, we celebrate the Canadian Thanksgiving too.
It's become our tribute to my homeland. We invite Ginny's daughter, her family and our son-in-law's family
This year we cooked the turkey at our place and took it over to Heather's (Ginny's Daughter) house where everyone had gathered
The night before we cooked the turkey, we cooked a Cornish hen.
When the turkey was done the next day, I stuck the hen inside the turkey
At Heather's house, everyone gathered around while I did the carving.
Part way through carving, I looked at Ginny, "Ginny?" I asked with a concerned expression on my face. "Gin, did you check inside this turkey before you cooked it?"
Everyone thought she left the neck and giblets inside the cavity.
"I did look, why? Ginny asked.
"Well you didn't look very closely!" With fake anger, I reached inside the turkey and pulled out the Cornish hen.
"You should have looked closer. This turkey was pregnant! How could you cook a pregnant turkey? That's just cruel."
There was silence around the room. Everyone stared in horror at the baby turkey Ginny killed.
Heather had her hands to her face in shock.
One of the ladies looked at Ginny. "Why are you laughing?"
Then everyone figured out it was a joke. It was worth every minute of effort to pull this off.
Priceless. I only wish we had a video of it
