Ghosts, Goblins and Gnomes

I live in a secured community
Hemet, CA. is now my home
The Guards try to keep us safe
From Ghosts, Goblins and Gnomes

But back several years ago
When El Dorado, Ks. was our home
We were invaded on Halloween
By Ghosts, Goblins and Gnomes

“Trick or Treat” was all they could say
As they stood outside your door
As you handed out the treats
Some always wanted more

We don’t see them anymore.
Out here in the Elder’ homes
We kinds miss those little
Ghosts, Goblins, and Gnomes

Those were the days
When Halloween was fun
As you hit every porch light
On a dead run

Candy, fruit, or a penny or two
To help fill your sack
Great memories
As I look back.

Out there in the country
The houses were miles apart
Made it hard to “trick or treat”
Especially after dark

No street lights
No porch lights either
Left us Ghosts, Goblins and Gnomes
In a dither.

But every country school
Not to be out did
There were treats and the teacher
Had a party for the kids

We dressed in our favorite costume
Hand made by Mom, you know
So you could enter the contest
The great costume show.

Those old Kerosene lanterns
Cast evil shadows on the wall
Made Halloween seem more eerie
As we ran up and down the hall

Chelsea No. 10 you were the greatest
For nineteen years, my home
I remember when I was made up as
A Ghost, a Goblin or a Gnome
