Way back in the dark woods
where weeping willows grow
down in a dark hollow
where lonesome winds blow

there lives an old woman
whom nobody knows
and she sits by her window
dressed in black clothes

she sits and she knits
in the dark shadows there
where no one can see
and with no one to care

and she talks to the ghost
that are all in her mind
and they tell her they love her
most of the time

and the dark shadows have shapes
that only she can see
and they dance and they prance
and wont let her be

so she sits and she knits
in her house in the woods
where the shadows have shapes
and life is not good.
