Where Were You When Pearl Harbor was Bombed????

Where Were You When Pearl Harbor was Bombed????

On December Seven
In the year 1941
Cold day in Chelsea, Kansas
Started out doing things fun

I walked to Paul Brants
A rancher in Chelsea, Kansas
To go to El Dorado with Bobbie Brant
We were in a hurry but alas

Pauls 1940 Chevrolet
Had a front flat
Weather was cold
So we were working fast

To put on the spare
Paul came out and said
The Japs had bombed Pearl Harbor
And there were many Sailors dead.

This news didn’t mean much to me
Pearl Harbor was far away
Our Navy was the greatest
I thought the Navy would save the day,

I was sure that we would
Come out on top
The invincible USA would see
Those invaders be stopped

With the Enlistment’s and Draft
The EHS enrollment grew less and less
The older men and boys were going
To war I started worrying I must confess.

The day I graduated
In 1944
I knew in a few months
I would be going off to war.

Suddenly my mind opened
Now I could see
That the Bombing of Pearl Harbor
Meant a heck of a lot to me.

After all the basic training
We were called out to a man
Harry dropped the bomb
OUR orders were “Invasion of Japan”.

I spent two years of Korean Occupation
Then back home to the farm
Out of that COLD Korea
To Kansas where it was warm.
