I returned once,to Dads Home Town
nothing much had changed,
except the old general store had closed
and I could barely read it's name.

That old store had stood there
since around eighteen eighty two
and it had sold everything
from cornmeal to brand new shoes.

They still had the old cotton gin
right where it always stood,
but it dont gin cotton anymore
because growing cotton aint no good.

The old fields are still there
that my Daddy used to plow,
but they were empty and unused
nothing growing there at all now.

That old house was empty too
the one where he was born,
the roof was all caved in
and it looked sad and forlorn.

So I guess after all it's really true
what they say about Boys and Men,
for once you leave home
you cant go back again.
