Mrs. Cook, from Chelsea, Kansas

One Monday when I got home from school
On the screen door was pinned a note
On this note
Was wrote

Go on down to the “Cooks”
Will pick you up later this eve
Be good
Don’t leave.

I loved this on Monday
Mrs. Cook baked rolls and bread
For her large family
To keep them well fed.

Mrs. Cook had me churn butter
How I liked to turn this churn
When the butter finally came
Two fresh baked rolls I did earn.

As I look back
Things couldn’t have been better
I earned myself a prize
Fresh rolls and butter.

Mrs. Cook had several kids
This is in the book
Ran out of names
Named one Chelsea Kansas cook.
