Home coming

Home Coming

I havenít been home
Since 1945
Mom and Dad and my two sisters
Are no longer alive.

Mom and Dad were very poor
They decided to send me
To live with my Aunt
Far away from my family

In my mind
I can see
How things
Used to be.

In the dim light of the candle
Here in my bedroom
I see my sisterís shadows
Faintly outlined in the gloom

Mom is sewing,
Dad is dozing in his easy chair
Music coming from the old radio
Softly wafting through the air

So much of my life Iíve missed
I never saw my parents grow old
I only know things about my family
That I was told

My aunt
Now she is gone
Iím left alone
To carry on.

When I wed
You can be sure
Weíll stay together
For ever more.

Tomorrow the house
Is to be torn down
Iíll not watch
Iím leaving town

Just another memory
Just another time
Never to be forgotten
Branded into my mind.
