Entertainment Center of 1930
(Chelsea, Kansas Farmhouse)

Besides the “Hobart M. Cable” Piano
There was Great Grammas violin
Kept in the parlor
Along with an old mandolin

In the dining room
Tight up against the north wall
Was a Victrola, whose musical tunes
Were enjoyed by all.

A beautiful piece of furniture
Polished with great care
When wound tight and turned on
Beautiful music filled the air.

Two small doors in front
When opened full sound
While the turntable above
Spun round and round

Two large doors at the bottom
Storage for the 78 rpm records
That were played almost daily
Rudy Vallee whose singing Mom adored.

There was a hand crank, on the Victrola
High upon the side
To keep the spring wound tight
So good music it would provide

I was four or five
I remember my mom singing along
With the radio
I remember her favorite song

“Red sails in the sunset
Far out on the sea
Oh carry my loved one
Home safely to me”

That old RCA Victor Victrola
Along with Mom playing the piano
Was the greatest entertainment
Doncha know.
