The City Streets are empty
it is the Mid Night hour
it has just rained a bit
the air is dank and sour.

A smell of uncollected garbage
wafts from a dark alley
I can hear the scruffling of Rats
but they remain unseen by me.

I can catch a brief glimmer
of their searching eyes
reflected by the street light
flashing like fireflies

A Feral Cat glares at me angrily
then glides into invisibility
a lonely dog holwls in the night
I feel the cold chill of vulnerability
