The day began with a crescendo of thumping. A partridge eager to share his joy stood on a fallen tree trunk tattooed by the beating of his wings, vigorously. He was also hoping to attract the attention of a female set of feathers The Keeper smiled to himself as the forest now aroused meant his tasks had begun..

The Keeper leaned against a birch tree, part of a cluster which introduced a slash of colour to the surrounding green woods. Spruce trees scattered in all direction, their size in various formalities. He stretched, breathed in the freshness of early chill and headed down an ancient trail. It was developed by area deer who loped along this low level until it rose into a magnificent ridge. And a view that connected two lakes, easily seen from this height.

Not far below, a bear lumbered along watched by a young doe. She was being trained under the watchful eye of mother. They blended with the landscape; being wary, watchful and sensing this creature demanded respect. Turning to seek another trail their white flags shook anxiously. Today’s adventure had begun, and there were miles to run.

The angel knew today would be another challenging one as she planned for her next forest area to visit. Selected as Keeper of these woods was a fine thing, knowing the Master could count on her to oversee all animals with a care-taker view.
