The Old Stone House

It is North of Strong City, KS off of HWY 17 in the Flint Hills

Standing proudly by the highway
This grand house of stone
Holding a million memories
Seemingly all alone

She stands in crumbling splendor
As seen by all who are passing by
On that lonely stretch of roadway
Beneath that Kansas sky

The walls are very thick
To block out heat and cold
If this old house could talk
Thousands of stories would be told

Behind this stone farmhouse
There runs a small stream
Where you could fish and play
Life would be a dream

This old stone house still standing
Has seen cyclones and tornados
Rain storm, snow storm and drought
Indian braves and desperados

Those brave pioneers
Who quarried the stone
And built this old stone house
They’re names are not known

She stands there in all her beauty
Showing all who are passing by
She’s from another era
Standing proudly beneath a cloudless Kansas sky
