is a trickster adding
flavour
to images
and remembrance
from the past.

A willow slap on
the backside
turns into a whipping
from back then --

an angry remark
becomes a nest of offenses
tearing the membrane
of your mind

and poverty captured
your soul
during younger years
was really dad not having
a car and waiting
until twelve for a first bike.

We do colour the past
with add-ons
and memories insufficient
to support

its time to place upon
your head
a crown of messages
with forgiveness to those
who brought pain
into your life. Yes do forgive.

Richard L. Provencher
